Dutch-based artificial intelligence (AI) developer Aidence is highlighting the implementation of its Veye Lung Nodules lung cancer screening software in a program in the U.K.
The Targeted Lung Health Checks (TLHC) program is currently running in Thurrock and Southend, as well as Luton and Bedfordshire, and is employing the software to support the identification of cancers in patients at earlier stages.
Specifically, the software detects small pulmonary nodules and supports radiologists in their diagnosis of early lung disease. When found, the software also gives an exact volume size of these nodules and, on subsequent scans, can detect precisely whether there has been growth, according to the company.
The TLHC program began in Thurrock in November 2020 and has since helped complete 2,941 CT scans. Southend, which began as a phase III site in April 2022, has performed 272 CT scans. So far, 27 people have been diagnosed with lung cancer using the AI technology, with 16 of those patients diagnosed at stages I and II, which is much more treatable, the company said.
