Over 60,000 visitors attended the 50th edition of Arab Health Medical Expo and the 25th edition of Total Radiology conference, held from 27 to 30 January 2025 at Dubai World Trade Centre, United Arab Emirates (UAE). To mark the occasion, below is a selection of images from the meeting.
Sustainability was a dominant theme throughout the event. According to the World Health Organization, 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions are from healthcare, and healthcare is the fifth largest carbon emitter on the planet. AI was also a key topic at Total Radiology. This lecture acknowledged the work of Prof. Geoffrey Everest Hinton, who was awarded the 2024 Ulysses Medal by University College Dublin in recognition of his work in computer science. However, many radiologists remain wary of Hinton after he predicted in 2016 that AI would replace radiologists and he said, "We should stop training radiologists right now."
Dr. Saif Afat, chairperson of the ESR Radiology Trainees Forum Subcommittee and managing senior physician at the University Hospital of TĂĽbingen in Germany, was one of many European attendees at Arab Health 2025.
At Total Radiology, sessions addressed these and other questions: Where will radiology be moving in the near, intermediate, and distant future? Where should safety responsibilities lie? Can abbreviated MRI replace full protocol MRI? How can we prepare radiology leaders for the future? The scientific committee included Prof. Dr. Michael Fuchsjaeger, former ESR President and professor of radiology at Medical University Graz, Austria.
More than 3,800 exhibitors displayed their products and services in the exhibit halls.
CT exhibits proved popular with attendees throughout the show.
A strong Spanish presence was evident at this year's event.
Visitors to the exhibition halls enjoy a light-hearted moment.
Arab Health has certainly shown great longevity since the first meeting was held in Dubai in 1975.
It was a case of standing room only at some sessions.
An illuminating display of ballet dancing was an integral part of the opening ceremony.
Exhibit halls remained crowded throughout the meeting.
