VIENNA -- Despite three years of adversity, Ukrainian radiologists remain positive and focused on knowledge preservation, skill improvement, and European cooperation, according to Dr. Uliana Pidvalna, associate professor in the department of normal anatomy at Danylo Halytsky at Lviv National Medical University.
There are more than 110 Ukrainian attendees at ECR 2025, even though there are still no flights. Pidvalna got lucky this year because her bus ride to Vienna only took 17 hours, but some of her colleagues in the east of the country had to sit on a bus for more than 30 hours to reach the Austrian capital. "We do the best we can to continue working hard, fighting, and staying optimistic," she said.
In this video interview, Pidvalna reflects on the impact of war on the lives of radiologists in Ukraine. She also speaks about her enthusiasm for ESR-related projects, including Editorial Board membership of European Radiology, her role as the Ukrainian editor of the Modern Radiology eBook (editing all 28 chapters, involving 30-plus translators), and serving as the Ukrainian representative on the ESR Education Committee. She is also a scientific consultant for research and development at the Ukrainian-Polish Heart Center Lviv.
